The expert judges participating in the event considered that “China’s major automobile manufacturers have made great efforts in the independent research and development of the core technology of the car – the engine. Through this selection we have seen the production process of the engines produced by Chinese companies. The performance, performance and
other aspects have made great progress. The award-winning engine not only has excellent performance in terms of power performance, but also has good results in terms of energy saving and environmental protection."

The "Top Ten Chinese" engine selection has been successfully held for four times. Unlike the previous three, this year's selection was conducted under the background of the international financial crisis, the country's introduction of the automobile industry restructuring and revitalization plan, and the encouragement of energy conservation and emission reduction. Small displacement is a new feature of this year's top ten winning models. The displacement of all participating models is 2.0L and below, of which 1.6L and below account for 70%.

Experts of the power of Fiat Power Technology believe that the high performance of low pressure or medium displacement through boost pressure is the development trend of the engine, and the boosted small-displacement quantified engine is also an economic method to reduce carbon dioxide emissions. Compared with naturally-charged engines, turbocharged small-row quantification engines can reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 25%, and fuel consumption can be reduced by 20% under comprehensive conditions.

In addition, lightweighting has also become another solution for auto companies seeking for low fuel consumption while developing new energy technologies. The lightweighting of the engine is an important part of achieving vehicle weight reduction. Among the top ten engines selected, lightweight components such as thin-walled cast iron or aluminum cylinders, lightweight camshafts, lightweight crankshaft linkages, and plastic intake manifolds have been widely used.

Compared with the previous sessions, the number of self-owned brand engines in the models participating this year has increased significantly. Experts said that the research and development of the own-brand engine has stepped out of the initial stage of imitation, and more companies have embarked on the road of independent research and development and have realized the application of key engine technologies. Nine out of the “China Hearts” top ten engines are equipped with advanced intake and exhaust control technologies, including VVT technology and variable intake manifold technology.
