According to Hong Kong media reports, Sinopec Wanbei coal-fired coalification integration project has started in Huainan, Anhui province. It is understood that after the project is completed and put into production, it can increase annual sales revenue by more than 12 billion yuan, of which, the first-phase project of 1.7 million tons/year of coal-to-methanol and converted olefins can be completed by the end of 2013.
In November of this year, Sinopec Yizheng Chemical Fibre Co., Ltd. and Anhui Wanbei Coal and Power Group Co., Ltd. formally signed an agreement to build a Sinopec Anhui coal chemical base in Huainan, with an estimated total investment of RMB 24.2 billion, including the construction of an annual output of 4 million tons of coal mines and annual production. 1.7 million tons of coal for methanol and 600,000 tons of olefins, 600,000 tons of ethylene glycol and related derivatives.
Yang Zhenchao, secretary of the Huainan Municipal Party Committee, stated at the ceremony that promoting coalification is a strategic choice for Huainan to exert its advantages in resources, cultivate pillar industries, optimize industrial structure, and transform development methods. Huainan is a national large-scale energy base and an important industrial city in Anhui Province. In recent years, the city has continuously accelerated the construction of new-type energy cities in accordance with the development ideas of “based on coal, extended coal, not only coal, and surpassing coalâ€. While carefully constructing 100 million tons of coal bases and 10 million kilowatts of thermal power bases, efforts are being made to build Anhui. (Huainan) Coal Chemical Industry Base promotes the transformation of coal resources into economic advantages and forms a diversified and sustainable development pattern.
At the ceremony, Anhui Huainan Modern Coal Chemical Industry Park, Sinopec Anhui Coal Chemical Industry Base and Zhongan United Coal Chemicals Co., Ltd. also held an unveiling ceremony.
