Wanxiang Group and MINIEYE Release AEB Samples for Production in Next Year

The 2016 Frankfurt (Shanghai) Auto Parts Fair will be held from November 30 to December 3 at the Shanghai National Convention and Exhibition Center. It is estimated that there will be more than 5600 exhibitors from home and abroad. As a well-known supplier of auto parts systems, Wanxiang Group announced the latest AEB (Automatic Emergency Braking) prototype at the exhibition. The prototype was jointly developed with the vehicle-mounted visual perception technology expert MINIEYE and made its debut at the exhibition.

The AEB system detects the road surface with a sensor mounted on the vehicle. When a danger of collision is detected and the driver does not take any braking measures, the system performs automatic emergency braking to avoid collisions. AEB has a very important role in ensuring the protection of occupants, so the EU announced in 2014 that all new vehicles must be equipped with AEB systems. Vehicles without this system will not receive E-NCAP five-star safety certification. The United States and Japan have also included AEB in the new car safety rating program.

However, currently in China, only some high-end models have AEBs, and their penetration rate in the Chinese market is less than 3%. It is reported that C-NCAP has planned to include AEB in the scoring system in 2018, which means that AEB will be popularized in China and gradually become the standard. Mr. Zhang Jie, chief engineer of the research and development department of Wanxiang Group Technology Center stated that no matter the development of the automotive technology itself or the government’s rigid regulations for continuously improving the road safety standards, there is an urgent need to match the new smart line control system. For MINIEYE, AEB will not only greatly increase the safety of drivers and passengers, but also be a milestone for its access to the driverless road. The success of AEB sample development marks MINIEYE's emergence from the perceived level to the control level.

At the exhibition site, Wanxiang Group demonstrated AEB prototypes and played AEB test videos. When the system detects a collision risk, it will immediately transmit a signal to WBS (Wire Controlled Dynamic System), which is independently developed by Wanxiang. If the driver does not have artificial braking, the system will automatically brake. It is reported that the cooperation between Wanxiang Group and MINIEYE is based on the strong combination of the two leaders. Dr. Zhang Daqing, head of Wanxiang Group's active safety technology and the special expert of the “One Thousand Talents Program” of the Central Group, said that MINIEYE has strong capabilities in the vehicle vision perception field and is therefore responsible for the perceived level of the AEB system; Wanxiang Group has more than a dozen Years of auto parts R&D and manufacturing experience, the developed line control system can achieve active control.

MINIEYE was founded in 2013 and is the first group of deep-growing vehicles with visual perception technology. MINIEYE provides solutions that use camera sensors to capture road surface information, collect data on the fly, and analyze it. When a risk of collision is detected, an early warning is issued to alert the driver and the brake system to react.

In this release of the AEB sample, MINIEYE first integrated the monocular camera with two sensors of millimeter-wave radar, which can increase the accuracy of sensor identification, such as millimeter-wave radar can be in dark conditions and bad weather conditions Make up for the lack of camera.

On the other hand, the WBS system independently developed by Wanxiang Group is at the leading position in China. The technology related to this product has applied for 4 invention patents and 10 utility model patents.

It is understood that the debut of the AEB sample will be carried out for a year of site verification and road test, is expected in the fourth quarter of next year, a small-scale mass production. By then, the sample will become the first AEB product in China. The cooperation between Wanxiang and MINIEYE not only has a huge commercialization prospect, but also more importantly means that as a local innovation force, it breaks the monopoly of foreign suppliers and lays down an important game in the unmanned layout of domestic cars.
