A series of 9-1-1 calls were made to Northwest Central Dispatch around noon today (Monday) regarding a rollover accident on the 1600 block of N. Rand Road in Arlington Heights. The location, which lies at the border of the Arlington Heights and Prospect Heights jurisdictions, prompted both fire departments to respond with full crews after it became clear that multiple people were involved and several vehicles were trapped.
Five cars were reported to be involved in the crash, with two drivers requiring extrication. One of the injured was rescued by units from Arlington Heights, while the other was freed by Prospect Heights firefighters. At the time of the incident, only one of the four available Arlington Heights ambulances was on duty, so additional units were called in from Prospect Heights, Palatine, Rolling Meadows, and Des Plaines.
One of the drivers did not survive the accident. Emergency responders worked quickly to free victims and transport them to nearby hospitals. Firefighters from both departments collaborated on the scene, using specialized tools to extract those trapped inside the wreckage.
Several photos taken by Larry Shapiro capture the aftermath of the crash, including images of the vehicles that were severely damaged. One photo shows a vehicle that may have become airborne after colliding with a minivan. Others show emergency personnel working together to assist the injured and secure the area.
Fire engines from Prospect Heights and Arlington Heights were on site, along with medical teams and command staff. The crash has raised questions about possible causes, with one witness claiming that a pickup truck was traveling at high speed in the wrong lane before the accident occurred.
The incident highlights the importance of quick response times and coordinated efforts between local agencies. As investigations continue, authorities are looking into the circumstances that led to the crash. A gallery of photos is available online for further viewing.
