A series of 9-1-1 calls were made to Northwest Central Dispatch around noon on Monday regarding a rollover accident on the 1600 block of N. Rand Road in Arlington Heights. The crash occurred near the border of Arlington Heights and Prospect Heights, prompting both fire departments to respond with full crews after it became clear that multiple people were injured and trapped.
Five vehicles were involved in the collision, with two drivers requiring rescue from their vehicles. One was extracted by Arlington Heights units, while the other was freed by Prospect Heights firefighters. At the time of the incident, only one of the four available Arlington Heights ambulances was on duty, so additional units arrived from Prospect Heights, Palatine, Rolling Meadows, and Des Plaines to assist.
One of the drivers did not survive the crash. Emergency responders worked quickly to free victims and transport them to nearby hospitals. Firefighters from both departments collaborated on extrications, while paramedics provided immediate medical care at the scene.
Photos from the scene show the extent of the damage, with vehicles flipped over and debris scattered across the road. Witnesses reported that one vehicle appeared to have gone airborne after hitting another car, possibly contributing to the severity of the accident. Several emergency vehicles, including engines, ladders, and ambulances, were seen working together to manage the situation.
The incident highlights the importance of coordinated emergency response in multi-jurisdictional areas. Both departments deployed significant resources, demonstrating a strong commitment to public safety. While the cause of the crash is still under investigation, early reports suggest that speed and possible driver error may have played a role.
