Muffler performance evaluation

The performance of the muffler can be evaluated from the following three aspects:

(I) Muffler performance, namely the muffler volume and spectrum characteristics. The amount of muffler muffler is usually expressed in terms of acoustic loss and insertion loss. In the field test, it can also be expressed by the difference in the sound level at the end of the exhaust port (or intake port). The spectrum characteristic of the muffler is generally expressed in the octave band or 1/3 octave band.

(2) Aerodynamic performance, ie, resistance or drag coefficient. Muffler damage is usually expressed by the total pressure difference between the inlet and the outlet of the muffler, and the resistance coefficient can be calculated from the dynamic pressure and resistance of the muffler. Installing a muffler on the air flow path will inevitably affect the aerodynamic performance of the equipment. If we only consider the muffler's anechoic performance and neglect the aerodynamic performance, under certain conditions. Mufflers may greatly reduce the effectiveness of the equipment and may not even be used at all.

(3) Structural performance, ie, mufflers with the same noise attenuation performance and aerodynamic performance, the smaller the geometric size, the cheaper the price, and the longer the service life, the better.
