How to Choose a ZHME Winch for Your Vehicle
Can't decide which winch is right for you? The best way to choose is to calculate the line pull needed for your application. Multiply your vehicle's Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW) by 1.5 to get an approximation of how big your winch should be. Typically, the first layer of rope around the drum is the maximum load the winch is capable of. Each additional layer reduces the rated line pull by about 10%. So for a winch rated at 9,500 lbs, the second layer will pull 8,550 lbs, the third 7,700 lbs, and so on. A loss of pulling power can also occur if the rope isn't evenly spooled on the drum. Make sure to re-spool your winch before heading out!
