The North Palos Fire Protection District was called to a fire at a Chinese restaurant located at 113th Street and Harlem Avenue just before 1:00 PM on Sunday. Upon arrival, firefighters found the building fully engulfed in flames. According to an article from *The Chicago Tribune*, which you can read [here](#), the Canton Express restaurant, measuring 30 by 60 feet, was completely on fire when crews arrived around 12:48 PM.
North Palos Chief Dan Russell explained that the structure's integrity had been severely compromised, with parts of the building collapsing. As a result, firefighters were forced to fight the fire from the outside, using defensive tactics to prevent the flames from spreading further.
Local photographer Tim Olk was on the scene and captured several powerful images of the incident. His photos show the intensity of the blaze and the efforts of the responding crews. One image features a tower ladder from Chicago Ridge and an aerial unit from the North Palos FPD using elevated master streams to tackle the fire. Another photo highlights the location of the restaurant within a strip center, while another shows the collapse of the building’s exterior wall during the fire.
Tim also captured shots of North Palos Engine 823 stationed near a hydrant, as well as firefighters directing water into the structure to extinguish hot spots. Mutual aid units, including Roberts Park Truck 31, were also present at the scene. The MABAS Division 21 Rehab Unit from Bridgeview provided additional support.
