I recently came across this interesting listing on govdeals.com featuring a 1990 IHC/Betten/Mickey squad vehicle that caught my attention. It's currently up for auction and has some unique features that could make it a great project for someone looking to repurpose a classic fire department truck. The auction ends on September 22nd, 2023 at 12:26 PM Eastern Time, with just over two weeks remaining. The reserve hasn't been met yet, and the starting bid is set at an incredibly low $100. There have been four bids so far, with the current high bid sitting at $5,000. Bids increase in increments of $50. This truck originally belonged to the Mount Prospect Fire Department and has been meticulously maintained by their public works fleet throughout its life. It's powered by a 1990 990 International 4900 with a DTA 466 diesel engine that only has 13,000 miles on it! That's an impressively low mileage for a vehicle of its age. The truck also comes equipped with an ONAN 7500KW diesel generator with just 572 hours of use. The generator model is 7.5DKDFJ27798C and includes two large retractable reels with 30-amp, 200-foot cords. The rear cabin even has a heater installed, and there's a lockable roll-up door system with plenty of storage space, including pull-out drawers. For added functionality, it features an 8,000-pound Ramsey winch with a roller fairlead mounted on the front bumper. The exterior lighting has been upgraded to LED emergency lights, and there are four telescopic floodlights for additional illumination. The truck also includes a cascade breathing air tank filling system with explosion-proof tanks that have been hydrostatically tested and are still valid for another five years. Under the hood, the engine runs strong without any warning lights, and the automatic transmission shifts smoothly. All emergency lights are operational, and the body roll-ups are in excellent working condition. The Betten/Remke body is constructed from durable aluminum. The tires show good tread, and there are no cracks in the glass. While there is normal wear and tear on both the interior and exterior, there are no known issues, and the truck was fully functional when it was taken out of service. The reason for selling this truck is due to scheduled replacement within the fire department. The maintenance schedule involves servicing every 3,000 miles or as needed. The truck is being sold with the understanding that it will require some work to repurpose it into something like a dump truck, box truck, tow truck, or even a recreational vehicle. With its robust construction and unique features, it offers endless possibilities for customization. If you're interested in checking it out, you can contact Kevin DeLuca at (847) 870-5640 to schedule an inspection between 9 AM and 3 PM on weekdays. Special thanks to Martin for sharing this find! Here are a few more photos for your reference: It's always exciting to see these old fire trucks finding new homes and purposes. Whether you're a collector, a mechanic, or just someone who loves classic vehicles, this one might be worth considering!
