Production and sales of 5 million Beiqi 50-bearing mills cast brilliant achievements

October is a beautiful season, marked by the vibrant colors of autumn and the bountiful harvest. It's a time when nature rewards the hard work of farmers, and in the world of industry, it's also a period of celebration and achievement. On October 12th, Beiqi Holding Company celebrated a major milestone—reaching 5 million units in production and sales. The event took place at South Gate Square, a key location for energy conservation and emission reduction research at the Beiqi Foton Automobile Engineering Research Institute. The ceremony was attended by notable figures such as Xu Heyi, Chairman of Beijing Automotive Industry Holding Co., Ltd., and Jilin, a member of the Beijing Municipal Standing Committee and Executive Vice Mayor. They poured blessed red wine into an ice sculpture symbolizing the 5 million mark. As the number appeared on the screen, more than 600 attendees erupted into thunderous applause, marking a historic moment for the Beijing automotive industry. This achievement not only sets a new record for the region but also highlights the industry’s growing contribution to high-end economic sectors and modern manufacturing. The value-added state-owned assets’ preservation rate reflects the progress made by BAIC in its development strategy. Looking ahead, Xu Heyi expressed confidence in the company’s future, stating that BAIC will continue to create new milestones through group development. Throughout its journey, BAIC has continuously expanded its product lines and refined its industrial layout. Ma Shouping, former general manager of the Beijing Automotive Group, noted that the road to achieving 5 million vehicles has been full of challenges and opportunities. At the event, several iconic models were showcased, including the "Jinggangshan" sedan, "BJ212," "Beijing Warriors" off-road vehicle, Foton Euro V passenger cars, Auman heavy-duty trucks, Hyundai Sonata, and Chrysler 300C. These models highlight the comprehensive product portfolio of BAIC, showcasing both independent and international brands. The "Jinggangshan" car, developed by Beijing First Automobile Accessories Factory (now part of BAIC), was a significant milestone in the company’s history. Designed with a unique Chinese touch, it reflected the spirit of innovation and perseverance of Beiqi engineers. Today, BAIC’s self-branded products make up 73% of the 5 million vehicles sold, a testament to the company’s strong brand identity. In the commercial vehicle segment, BAIC Foton has developed a range of advanced products, including the Auman, Euro V, Omar, and Parker series, establishing itself as a leader in the commercial vehicle market. Foton Euro V hybrid buses are already in mass production, while the Parker MPV has been recognized as a key logistics support equipment in China. BAIC has also made significant strides in international collaboration. After introducing the first Sonata sedan in 2002, Beijing Hyundai launched several new models, including Yuxiang, Elantra, Accent, and Tucson. Meanwhile, BAIC successfully launched luxury models like the Chrysler 300C through its partnership with Mercedes-Benz. Looking ahead, BAIC plans to unveil new "Beijing" brand cars and off-road vehicles at the upcoming Beijing International Auto Show. Today, the company includes four major manufacturers: Beiqi Foton Motor, Beijing Hyundai, Beijing Benz-Daimler Chrysler, and Beijing Automobile Manufacturing. This diverse lineup covers all vehicle categories, from commercial to luxury, ensuring a well-balanced product system. To strengthen its group management, BAIC aims to enter the global top 500 companies. By the end of the “Eleventh Five-Year Plan,” the company targeted revenue of 145 billion yuan and profits of 55 billion yuan, with 20% of its products exported internationally. Over the years, BAIC has seen rapid growth, with sales revenue increasing nearly sixfold from 7.1 billion yuan in 2000 to 49.6 billion yuan in 2006. To achieve these goals, BAIC has focused on improving its supply chain, building independent platforms, and optimizing service networks. It has also formed strategic partnerships with global auto parts giants like Bosch and Magna, reinforcing its position in the industry. In R&D, BAIC established the Beijing Automotive Research Institute to foster innovation and integrate internal and external resources. The completion of the Foton Motor Energy-Saving and Emission Reduction Key Laboratory marks a step forward in sustainable development. In service trade, BAIC has expanded into logistics, car finance, leasing, and used car operations, forming a comprehensive service ecosystem. Strategic collaborations with companies like Shougang have further strengthened its group development strategy. Through asset restructuring and debt reorganization, BAIC has improved its financial health and optimized its capital structure. The establishment of Beijing Auto Asset Management Co., Ltd. and the transfer of 19 companies under its umbrella have helped revitalize state-owned enterprises and promote industry adjustment. Since the “Eleventh Five-Year Plan,” BAIC has focused on group development, aiming to build five key platforms: vehicle manufacturing, parts, R&D, service trade, and reform. By 2010, the company aimed to produce over 1.5 million vehicles and sell more than 1.3 million units. After 50 years of growth, BAIC has overcome many challenges and achieved remarkable success. However, for the company, this is just the beginning. With continued innovation and ambition, BAIC is poised to make even greater contributions to China’s automotive industry and leave a lasting legacy.
