Production and sales of 5 million Beiqi 50-bearing mills cast brilliant achievements

October is a beautiful season, marked by vibrant colors and the bountiful harvest of the year. On October 12th, Beiqi Holding Company celebrated a significant milestone—its production and sales reaching 5 million vehicles. The event took place in South Gate Square, a key location for energy conservation and emission reduction research at the Beiqi Foton Automobile Engineering Research Institute. Among the attendees were Xu Heyi, Chairman of Beijing Automotive Industry Holding Co., Ltd., and Jilin, a member of the Beijing Municipal Standing Committee and Executive Vice Mayor. They poured blessed red wine into an ice sculpture, symbolizing the company’s growth and success. As the number “5 million” appeared on the screen, more than 600 people erupted in thunderous applause. This achievement not only set a new record for the Beijing automobile industry but also highlighted its growing contribution to high-end industries and modern manufacturing. The value-added state-owned assets’ preservation rate demonstrated that BAIC has made remarkable progress in its development goals. Looking ahead, Xu Heyi expressed full confidence in the future, stating that BAIC will continue to shine through group development and innovation. Throughout its journey, BAIC has continuously expanded its product lines and improved its industrial layout. Ma Shouping, former general manager of Beijing Automotive Group, remarked that the road to achieving 5 million vehicle sales was filled with both opportunities and challenges. At the event, several iconic models were unveiled, including the “Jinggangshan” sedan, “BJ212,” Beijing Warriors off-road vehicle, Foton Euro V passenger cars, Auman heavy-duty trucks, Hyundai Sonata, and Chrysler 300C. These showcased BAIC’s comprehensive product lineup and the successful integration of both independent and international brands. The “Jinggangshan” car, developed by Beijing First Automobile Accessories Factory (now part of BAIC), was designed with a unique Chinese touch, reflecting the spirit of the company’s early days. Similarly, the BJ212, the first light off-road vehicle developed by Beijing Auto, became a symbol of the company’s perseverance and innovation. Today, BAIC’s own brand products account for 73% of the total 5 million vehicles sold. In the commercial vehicle sector, BAIC Foton has developed a range of advanced products, such as the Auman, Euro V, Omar, and Parker, forming a strong product system and establishing itself as China’s leading commercial vehicle brand. The Foton Euro V hybrid buses are already in mass production, while the Parker MPV has been recognized as one of the country’s key logistics support equipment. BAIC also partnered with Hyundai to launch the Sonata, Yuxiang, Elantra, Accent, and Tucson, while successfully introducing luxury models like the Chrysler 300C. Looking ahead, BAIC plans to unveil new “Beijing” brand cars at the Beijing International Auto Show next year. Today, BAIC Holding Co., Ltd. includes four major manufacturers: Beiqi Foton Motor, Beijing Hyundai Motor, Beijing Benz-Daimler Chrysler Automotive, and Beijing Automobile Manufacturing. It offers a wide range of vehicles across all segments, from high-end to budget, ensuring a well-balanced product system. Through the construction of a complete vehicle manufacturing platform, BAIC has begun to shape an industrial structure focused on “better Beiqi Futian, bigger Beijing Hyundai, refined Beijing Benz, and specialized Beiqi.” To reach the top 500 global companies, BAIC has set ambitious goals. By the end of the “Eleventh Five-Year Plan,” it aimed to achieve revenue of 145 billion yuan and profit of 55 billion yuan, with 20% of its products exported internationally. Over the past few years, BAIC’s performance has seen rapid growth. In 2006, its sales revenue reached 49.6 billion yuan, nearly six times higher than in 2000. By 2010, the value-added rate of state-owned assets was expected to reach 160%, contributing over 13% to the city’s industrial added value. These achievements were not accidental. BAIC pioneered joint ventures and listed companies in the national auto industry, exploring new development models. It also improved spare parts supply, built independent platforms, and optimized service networks. To strengthen its parts business, BAIC has partnered with global giants like Bosch, Magna, and Johnson Controls, as well as domestic leaders. Its selection criteria for partners are extremely strict, focusing on Fortune 500 companies and top-tier Chinese firms. In addition, BAIC has established a parts company and signed agreements for multiple parts industrial parks, aiming to build a cluster of R&D, manufacturing, and export activities. The development of high-tech, low-pollution, and energy-efficient components is now taking shape. For R&D, BAIC has created the Beijing Automotive Research Institute, focusing on innovation and collaboration between industry, education, and research. The completion of the Foton Motor energy-saving and emission reduction laboratory marks a key step forward. In service trade, BAIC has expanded into logistics, steel industry chains, and automotive trade, signing strategic agreements with Shougang Corporation. It has also made progress in vehicle exports, brand distribution, used car operations, auto finance, and leasing. By integrating and restructuring state-owned assets, BAIC has improved its competitiveness and control. Debt reorganization agreements and asset management initiatives have helped the industry move forward. Since the “Eleventh Five-Year Plan,” BAIC has pursued a strategy of group development and leapfrog growth, building five key platforms: vehicles, parts, R&D, service trade, and reform. It aims to achieve sustainable and rapid development. By 2010, BAIC expects to produce over 1.5 million vehicles annually and sell more than 1.3 million. After 50 years of challenges, BAIC has overcome many obstacles and achieved great success. However, for the company, this is just the beginning. With continued efforts, it is expected to create more milestones and leave a lasting legacy in China’s automotive history.
