This morning (March 18, 2019), firefighters from Lake Zurich responded to a barn fire at 21100 Shirley Road in unincorporated Palatine. Initial reports indicated that there were chickens and horses inside the small barn, and fortunately, it seemed that most—if not all—of the animals had managed to escape. Although a massive plume of smoke could be seen for miles, the firefighters from Lake Zurich quickly mobilized their resources and had water on the flames within minutes. The fire was brought under control in roughly 15 minutes, but the overhaul process kept them occupied for nearly an hour.
In addition to the Lake Zurich units, support came from various neighboring departments. A tower ladder from Wauconda, along with tankers from Long Grove, Barrington Countryside, and the Countryside Fire Protection District, provided additional resources. Engines from Buffalo Grove, Wheeling, and Fox River Grove also assisted on scene. Barrington Ambulance Unit 1 was present to offer rehabilitation services for the firefighters.
