This message is from Eric Haak:
At 4:45 PM on Saturday, July 30th, the Main Fire Alarm Office dispatched the 18th Battalion to a working fire on the 1500 block of South Kostner. Engine 38 arrived first and quickly boxed the fire, reporting an exposure issue and a burn victim. I arrived shortly after, when only a small amount of fire remained in the attic, so most of the photos show equipment positioning rather than active flames.
The first few images capture Engine 95 stretching a hose line to the second floor in the rear of the structure. In the third photo, you can see fire coming out of a couple of windows on the front side of the building, though one window is partially hidden by bushes. It took around 20 minutes for the Still & Box to be fully knocked down.
The photos also show firefighters in action during the overhaul phase, as well as some of the apparatus involved, including Engine 38, 95, 99, and even an old Seagrave truck still in service. There’s also a shot of a Chicago FD lieutenant directing operations. These images give a good sense of the scene and the teamwork that went into handling the incident.
