The Stone Park Fire Department responded to a basement fire at 1538 N. 40th Avenue this morning on December 1st, 2016. The call came in early, and crews arrived to find a two-story, vacant single-family home engulfed in flames from the lower level. It was classified as a working fire, with two attack lines deployed to control the blaze.
Several mutual aid units were also on scene, including a Leyden engine, Bensenville squad and battalion chief, a Berkeley engine, Northlake truck, and an ambulance from Melrose Park. Additionally, change of quarters companies included an ambulance from River Forest and an engine from Norwood Park. Despite the intensity of the fire, there were no injuries reported, and the cause is currently under investigation by local authorities.
Photos from the scene show the aftermath of the fire, with smoke still lingering and damage visible on the structure. Local photographer Steve Redick captured several images, including shots of the responding units, the damaged property, and a close-up of the Stone Park FD squad's decal. These images give a real-time look at how quickly firefighters can respond and how serious these incidents can be, even in seemingly quiet neighborhoods.
This event highlights the importance of rapid response and community cooperation during emergencies. As investigations continue, residents are being urged to remain cautious and report any suspicious activity.
