Algonquin-Lake in the Hills FPD hires former CFD chief

The Northwest Herald recently published a story detailing significant changes within the Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District. The district has been undergoing a major administrative overhaul, with new leadership bringing fresh perspectives and expertise to the team. This week, the fire district officially announced the hiring of Peter Van Dorpe as their new assistant chief. Van Dorpe, a seasoned firefighter from Chicago with 34 years of experience, will take on a key role starting October 1st. He is set to earn an annual salary of $111,750. According to internal documents, 20 candidates applied for the position, with four being interviewed. His responsibilities will include strategic planning, budget oversight, data analysis, policy development, and emergency preparedness coordination. Chief Patrick Mullen praised Van Dorpe’s extensive background in fire protection, highlighting his experience in fire suppression, training, and budget management. "He brings a wealth of knowledge that will benefit our entire department," Mullen said. In addition to Van Dorpe's appointment, the district also welcomed Cristiane Randall as the new management services director. She began her role on August 26th with an annual salary of $84,818. Randall will oversee human resources, employee benefits, risk management, worker’s compensation, data systems, payroll, and labor relations. Prior to joining the fire district, she worked in the human resources department of Hanover Park and has experience in IT, programming, and web design. Mullen expressed high expectations for both new hires, saying, "We expect great things from them." The appointments mark the final steps in the district’s administrative restructuring, which followed several leadership changes earlier this year. Former Fire Chief Kevin Rynders resigned in January, and Mullen was appointed as his permanent replacement. John Gaughan, who previously served as assistant chief of administration, did not have his contract renewed at the end of April. He was succeeded by Randall, who now leads the management services department. The assistant chief position had been vacant since mid-2023, with Tim Littlefield serving in an interim capacity before being promoted to administrative captain. These changes signal a new chapter for the Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District, aimed at improving efficiency and service delivery. Thanks, Dan.
