This report comes from Josh Boyajian: On Wednesday afternoon, the MFAO responded to a water incident at 33rd and Kedzie after a person jumped off the bridge. Battalion 14 arrived first and confirmed the situation. I got there about five minutes after the initial call. Fire crews were already on scene, using ladders to reach the canal bank from the bridge. Within ten minutes, Squad 1, along with units 6-8-7 and 6-8-1, arrived with divers ready for action. Dive Coordinator 6-8-6 directed Helicopter 6-8-1 to the last known location where the person entered the water. Two divers were deployed quickly and, within just a few minutes, they located the victim and brought him safely to shore. The use of both ground crews and aerial support made the operation more efficient and increased the chances of a successful outcome. It's always a relief to see a positive result like this, especially when it involves saving a life. These kinds of incidents remind us of the critical role that firefighters and emergency responders play every day, often in high-stress and dangerous situations.
