I just got back from capturing some awesome shots of the Bedford Park Fire Department's new fleet. It was such an interesting experience to see how they're upgrading their equipment. They've got some really impressive trucks now, and I even had the chance to learn a bit about what each one does.
At Station 1 on 6820 S Archer Road, there’s a whole lineup of gear. The standout piece for me was the new mini pumper/squad they’ve added. Apparently, this little powerhouse won’t be tied to any specific fire apparatus; it’ll be out there responding to medical calls and general fire emergencies when staffing allows. Alongside that, they’ve got a quint, an ambulance, a snorkel truck, and a couple of spare engines. One of the spares is Engine 711, and the other is Engine 707.
Station 2 over on 5101 W 67th Street has its own set of impressive vehicles. Their Engine 710 is a beast, and they also have an ambulance and a battalion chief vehicle. It’s great to see they’re well-equipped for both fire and medical responses.
And then there’s Station 3 located at 6799 W 73rd Street. This station houses a tower truck and another squad. The tower truck looks like it could handle just about anything thrown its way. It’s always fascinating to see these vehicles up close and personal.
I managed to snap some photos of several different models, including a Type I Road Rescue ambulance, a Pierce fire engine, and a Pierce Impel PUC Ascendent quint. Each one is unique in its design and purpose, making them perfect for different situations. There’s also a Pierce Dash CF PUC aluminum tower ladder and a Pierce Lance heavy rescue hazmat unit. And let’s not forget the Ford Rosenbauer America mini-pumper – it’s compact yet powerful.
All in all, it was a fantastic day getting to document these incredible machines. The Bedford Park Fire Department seems to be taking safety and preparedness very seriously with these upgrades. I’m excited to see how they continue to evolve and improve their services!
