... here's a quick update from Fox Lake. On April 8, 2013, they responded to a structure fire in the 38000 block of Hillandale within the unincorporated area of Spring Grove. Engine 223 arrived to find a one-story elevated house fully engulfed in flames. Command quickly requested support from an Antioch engine and a Spring Grove tender. They also pulled Box 22-14 to the second alarm, calling for additional tenders and chiefs, along with a special request for squads from McHenry and Newport.
The steep terrain and narrow, winding gravel roads made it challenging for both firefighters and equipment to access the scene. Tenders had to navigate several blocks of these treacherous roads, backing up carefully to avoid any accidents. Initial concerns that someone might still be trapped inside turned out to be false when the homeowner returned from a shopping trip to find firefighters working hard to save his home.
Despite the difficult conditions, crews worked tirelessly through the night to bring the blaze under control and thoroughly overhaul the site. Thankfully, there were no reports of injuries.
