Last Sunday afternoon (June 2), emergency responders in Chicago's 6th Battalion faced a challenging rescue situation at the intersection of 53rd and Union. A tree trimmer had fallen and was left dangling upside down from a tree at a moderate height. Unfortunately, he had suffered a broken leg during the incident. Truck 18 quickly moved into position and extended its ladder to provide initial support for the trapped man until additional help arrived. Squad 5 and Tower Ladder 39 soon joined the effort.
The crew on Truck 18 managed to hold the man steady while they carefully worked to untangle him from the tree. This was a painstaking process that required precision and patience, given his precarious position. Eventually, Tower Ladder 39 maneuvered its basket beneath him and gently lowered him to safety. The whole operation took around 45 minutes. Accessing the scene proved difficult due to the soft ground caused by recent heavy rains. To stabilize their equipment, the firefighters used fence posts that were being installed nearby.
