You've invested in a PGS Legacy Series grill and enjoyed many summer grilling sessions with friends and family. But now you're wondering how to keep it in top condition for years to come. The good news is that our outdoor gas grills are built to last and are designed with easy maintenance in mind. Proper care ensures your grill will perform like new every time you fire it up.
Without regular cleaning, your grill can suffer from clogged burners, grease buildup, and even rust. These issues not only affect performance but also reduce the lifespan of your grill. Fortunately, with a little effort, you can maintain your PGS Legacy grill and continue creating great memories on the grill.
Keeping your grill in excellent condition doesn’t require a lot of time, just consistent attention. A deep clean once or twice a year is ideal, but we recommend doing a lighter maintenance check every few months. Over time, marinades, food particles, and grease can accumulate, so it's important to stay on top of it.
It’s also a good idea to do a thorough cleaning before the start of the grilling season to ensure everything is in working order.
For your PGS Legacy grill, we recommend lining the grease tray with heavy-duty aluminum foil before each use. This helps prevent grease from sticking and makes cleanup easier. Be sure to inspect and empty the tray regularly. Replace the foil after every five to ten uses, depending on how fatty the foods you cook are.
If your grill has been exposed to rain without a cover, check the grease tray for water accumulation. Water can cause corrosion over time, so it’s best to keep it dry.
Cleaning your burners is an essential part of maintaining your grill. Before starting, make sure the gas supply is turned off and the feedline is free of gas. Carefully remove the burner assembly by lifting it up from the back after removing the cooking grids and rock grates.
Use a stiff wire brush to clean both sides and the bottom of the burner. For clogged flame holes, a thin wire or small brush can help clear them. If your grill has venturis, use a long flexible wire to clean them thoroughly.
Cleaning your cooking grids is simple but important. Use a brass or stainless steel brush to scrub the grids while they’re still hot, then wipe them down with a damp cloth. Always wear a heat-resistant mitt when cleaning to protect your hands.
If there's a heavy buildup of residue, you can remove the grids and soak them in a soap solution before scrubbing. Rinse and dry them completely before putting them back on the grill.
Our stainless steel PGS Legacy grills are made in California and are built to withstand the elements. While stainless steel is durable, it still needs some care to maintain its appearance and longevity.
Neglecting maintenance can lead to surface damage, including rust and pitting. Rust marks often come from metal particles left behind by steel scouring pads or carbon steel utensils. These can be removed with a soft cloth and stainless steel cleaner.
Pitting can occur from exposure to bleach or concentrated acids like vinegar. Always rinse thoroughly after using any cleaning agents and avoid leaving salt or acidic mixtures on the surface for too long.
