Wilmette Fire Department open house

On Saturday morning (May 18th, 2019), the Wilmette Fire Department held an open house event that provided residents with a fascinating look into their operations. The event showcased several antique firefighting vehicles alongside the introduction of a brand-new Engine 27. After a ceremonial presentation, the new engine was officially pushed into its designated spot inside the station. Engine 27 is a 2019 Pierce Dash CF PUC model, equipped with state-of-the-art features including a 1500-gallon-per-minute (GPM) pump, 750 gallons of onboard water storage, and a foam cell capable of holding either 20 or 30 gallons. Additionally, it comes fitted with a 35-foot ground ladder and can serve as Engine 26 in case the tower ladder is unavailable. This impressive vehicle will be stationed at Firehouse 27, while the previous 2013 E-ONE engine will transition to reserve status. The day also featured various photographs taken by Larry Shapiro, capturing moments from the event such as active and retired firefighters posing proudly beside the new engine, as well as images of the ceremonial procession where the team collectively moved Engine 27 into position. These photos beautifully encapsulate the camaraderie and dedication within the department. Moreover, the gallery includes a series of thumbnail images that provide viewers with a closer look at different aspects of the open house. Each image offers insight into the activities and highlights of the day, allowing those who couldn’t attend to experience some of the excitement firsthand. In other news, the Wilmette Fire Department recently sold off their reserve tower ladder and currently have another engine listed for sale. This move reflects strategic planning aimed at optimizing their fleet efficiency and resources. Overall, this open house served not only as an opportunity for community engagement but also highlighted the continuous evolution within the Wilmette Fire Department. It’s clear that they remain committed to providing top-tier service while maintaining a strong connection with their local residents.
