Winfield house fire 6-17-11

This was a general alarm fire with a special. It was a two-story frame structure. When crews arrived, the entire rear of the house was already on fire. The (Wheaton) engine went to the roof, while Winfield companies were working in the front—just like it says in the textbook. I was about a mile and a half away when the first units arrived. I looked in that direction and saw a huge column of smoke. By the time I got there, the fire had died down and the smoke was gone.The photos show the damage on the rear, exterior, and interior. Great job by the firefighters!

A Winfield family escaped unharmed Friday morning when fire broke out in their two-story home in an unincorporated area near Winfield. The house became uninhabitable after the fire, which started just after 9 a.m. at the Cypress Lane residence. First responders arrived within two minutes, according to Winfield Chief Phil Dimenza.
