Yuchai Engine Project was selected into the country's 2015 smart manufacturing project

In order to promote the construction of a strong manufacturing country, the “Made in China 2025” was implemented. The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology decided to implement the “Smart Manufacturing Pilot Demonstration Special Action” since 2015. Recently, according to the “2015 Smart Manufacturing Special Project” published by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, Yuchai ’s “Digital and Large Engine Block Digital Casting Workshop” project was approved. The launch of this project means that Yuchai has entered a new stage in the integration of deep advancement and integration.

The "large and medium engine block digital casting shop" project was jointly constructed by Yuchai and the General Research Institute of Machinery Science. The project ensures the production of cylinder block castings through the application of the cylinder digital casting expert system, digital casting shop core making system, intelligent casting cleaning system, casting surface defect automatic detection system, and dieless casting island and other safe and controllable intelligent manufacturing methods. The entire process is controllable and precise, and low-energy, high-quality, high-volume digital castings are produced.

Through intelligent, digital, informatization, and networking, the project has comprehensively upgraded the original casting production line, cast three large casting production lines and rapid prototyping workshops, and upgraded the Yuchai's large and medium-sized engine block digital casting level. Through intelligent upgrades, operating costs will drop by more than 20%, production efficiency will increase by more than 20%, defective products will drop by more than 10%, and energy efficiency will increase by more than 10%.

Yuchai, as the first batch of pilot units, took the first train to promote smart manufacturing in the country. Chen Jinyuan, senior technical adviser of Yuchai’s chairman, said that smart manufacturing has become the current trend of global manufacturing development and is the main direction for China’s advancement of deep integration during a period of time. With the implementation of the national intelligent project, Yuchai will complete the short board in all aspects of automation, digitalization, and network mass production of the engine block, non-modeling of castings, and individualized and rapid manufacturing, and further increase the level of intelligent production. It has become a demonstration of intelligent production in the foundry industry and has contributed to the transformation of the nation from a manufacturing power to a manufacturing power.

It is understood that the project is currently preparing specific implementation plans and is expected to close by the end of 2017.
