On Thursday, a Metra train passenger noticed a body tangled among branches and debris in the Des Plaines River near Belmont and River Road. The River Grove Fire Department responded to the scene and confirmed that a recovery operation was necessary. Due to the strong currents caused by the recent flooding, MABAS Division 20 called upon divers from MABAS Division 3 to assist with the swift water rescue. A detailed article on the incident can be found in the Chicago Tribune **here**.
Tim Olk, a local photographer, was present at the scene and captured a powerful series of images documenting the challenging recovery effort. Additional photos are available **here**.
The recovery operation was physically demanding and required careful coordination between multiple agencies. Divers worked in pairs, navigating fast-moving water while ensuring their safety lines remained secure. Local residents watched the efforts unfold, some expressing concern over the conditions of the river. Authorities have not yet released the identity of the individual recovered, and an investigation is ongoing.
