Winnetka updates their apparatus

The Winnetka Fire Department, part of MABAS Division 3, has introduced their new quint into service, marking a fresh visual identity for the department. The 2010 Smeal quint arrived with a black roof, and the department developed a new door seal design. This updated look features a gold and black Maltese cross that includes both the Winnetka and Kenilworth names. Engine 28, a 2000 Pierce Saber, now has a black top, the new decal, and updated striping. Similarly, Ambulance 28 also received the new graphics and stripe pattern. However, Engine 28R and Ambulance 28R still maintain their original appearance and older door decal. ![WINN_T28-LS](#) This is the newly deployed 2010 Smeal Sirius quint, known as Truck 28. It's a significant upgrade for the department and reflects their modernized image. ![WINN_T28-5280-LS](#) Here’s a look at the previous unit, a 1990 Pierce Arrow 75' quint, which was recently retired. This photo shows the last version of Truck 28 before its replacement. The vehicle featured the latest door seal and two-tone striping. ![WINN_T28-LS](#) This image highlights the key features of the old Truck 28, including its 1,250-GPM pump and 300-gallon water tank. It was a reliable workhorse for the department for many years. ![WINN_T70-900_ALF-LS](#) Before the current numbering system, Winnetka used unit numbers like Truck 70. This American LaFrance 900-Series mid-mount aerial served as one of the department’s primary aerial devices before the arrival of the 1990 Pierce in 1990. They also had a 55-foot Snorkel in the station. ![WINN_E28-LS](#) Engine 28 now sports a sleek black roof and a triple stripe with the new door seal. This update gives the engine a more modern and professional look. ![WINN_E28-4575-LS](#) This photo shows the previous design of Engine 28, which had a white roof and a blue door seal. The rear door featured both Winnetka and Kenilworth, but the new design allows for a cleaner layout with more space for a striking graphic showing the unit number. ![WINN_E28_366-LS](#) When Engine 28 was first delivered in 2000, it came with the classic "rising sun" door decal, similar to the one seen on the older truck above. This design was gradually phased out as the department moved toward its new look. With these updates, the Winnetka Fire Department continues to evolve while maintaining its strong connection to the community and its long history of service.
