China's largest single-capacity lubricating oil type atmospheric and vacuum unit came out

Developed by Sinopec Engineering Construction Company, Gaoqiao Branch, Tianjin University, and Shenzhen Chengda Technology Co., Ltd., China's largest single-capacity lubricant-type atmospheric and vacuum distillation unit—Sinopec Gaoqiao Branch’s 8 million tons per year lubricating oil type facility—has recently completed its third full start-up cycle after three years of continuous operation. Following a comprehensive evaluation and calibration, the unit has successfully met all expected performance indicators, including processing capacity, product yield, product quality, and energy consumption. Last month, the complete engineering technology development project passed a technical review organized by the Sinopec Science and Technology Development Department. Industry experts have recognized that the entire set of technologies has reached an international advanced level and is ready for industrial application. These technologies are not only suitable for lubricant-type units but can also be adapted for other types of atmospheric and vacuum distillation systems, offering broad potential for future use. During the development of this integrated technology, several innovative methods were introduced and combined to form large-scale engineering solutions for lubricant production. This includes advanced vacuum systems, vacuum fractionation systems, oil transfer pipelines, and heating furnaces. Key innovations such as the steam-mechanical combined vacuum system, the cold-state simulation device for super-large liquid distributors, and the design and application of large-scale critical piping systems represent domestic firsts in the industry. Compared to fuel-type units, lubricant-type crude oil distillation units involve more complex processes and higher technical demands. The distillation of vacuum oil into lubricating oil requires precise control and advanced techniques, making it significantly more challenging than producing cracking feedstocks. However, many of the engineering techniques developed for this unit can also be applied to fuel-type vacuum distillation systems, enhancing their efficiency and performance. This breakthrough marks a significant step forward in China's refining technology capabilities, demonstrating the country's growing expertise in developing high-performance, large-scale oil processing facilities.
