Dongfeng Motor Co., Ltd. recently announced that the newly launched heavy-duty truck, Dongfeng Tianlong, has demonstrated remarkable performance after seven days of experimental driving. The company claims that the introduction of the Tianlong model has fundamentally addressed long-standing quality issues in China's heavy truck industry. With a focus on delivering high-performance, high-quality, and high-safety vehicles, Dongfeng continues to set new standards for commercial trucks.
The Tianlong series is divided into three categories, 11 series, and 51 different models, reflecting Dongfeng Commercial Vehicle Co., Ltd.'s commitment to developing world-class large-tonnage heavy trucks. The launch of this new generation of trucks marks a significant step forward for the company, positioning it as a top player in China and aiming for global recognition.
In terms of technology, the Tianlong incorporates advanced international development practices. For example, the cab was co-developed with Nissan Diesel, while the engine integrates Renault’s technology. The transmission comes from Germany’s ZF16, ensuring reliability and performance. Externally, the truck features a streamlined front mask, a honeycomb grille, unique combination headlights, and a prominent three-dimensional Dongfeng emblem, giving it a luxurious and powerful appearance.
Inside, the cabin is designed for comfort and convenience. The steering column offers multi-directional adjustment, and the seats are equipped with mechanical shock absorption and airbag dampers. Additional features include an electric sunroof, a driver’s footrest, and an ultra-wide bed measuring up to 850mm wide, along with thoughtful details like a sleeper reading lamp.
Safety is a key priority, with anti-collision bars, reinforced door beams, large windshields, full-view mirrors, and airbags enhancing driver protection. The Tianlong meets Euro III emission standards, offering strong power, superior performance, and reduced environmental impact.
In addition to safety and performance, the new generation of Dongfeng heavy trucks also excels in fuel efficiency, low noise levels, excellent cold-start capabilities, and durability. The engine can last up to 800,000 kilometers, making it a reliable choice for long-haul operations.
Since 2005, the Chinese heavy truck market experienced its first negative growth in eight years, with overall sales dropping by over 33%. However, large-tonnage heavy trucks continued to perform well, showing strong growth despite the downturn. The release of the Dongfeng Tianlong series signals the company's strong entry into the premium heavy truck segment, potentially reshaping the competitive landscape of the domestic market.
