Dongfeng Motor Co., Ltd. has announced that the newly launched heavy-duty truck, Dongfeng Tianlong, has demonstrated significant improvements in quality after a seven-day trial period. The company claims that the Tianlong model has effectively addressed long-standing issues that have plagued China's heavy truck industry. With a focus on delivering high-performance, high-quality, and high-safety vehicles, Dongfeng aims to meet the evolving needs of its customers.
According to recent reports, the Dongfeng Tianlong line consists of three categories, 11 series, and 51 different models. Dongfeng Commercial Vehicle Co., Ltd. has been dedicated to developing world-class large-tonnage heavy trucks that can compete globally. The launch of this new generation of trucks marks a major step forward for the company, positioning it as a leading player in China and among the top three globally.
Technologically, the Tianlong incorporates advanced international development practices. For example, the cab was co-developed with Nissan Diesel, while the engine integrates Renault technology. The transmission is sourced from Germany’s ZF16. In terms of design, the truck features a streamlined front grille, a honeycomb-style bumper, and unique combination headlights, giving it a luxurious and powerful appearance. Inside, the cabin offers comfort with adjustable steering columns, mechanical shock-absorbing seats with airbag dampers, an electric sunroof, and a footrest to reduce driver fatigue during long trips. It also includes an ultra-wide sleeping berth measuring 850mm wide and thoughtful touches like a reading lamp for the sleeper.
Safety is another key highlight of the Tianlong. It comes equipped with anti-collision bars, reinforced door beams, large windshields, full-view mirrors, and airbags, making it one of the safest heavy trucks in China. Its engine delivers strong power, superior performance, and meets Euro III emission standards.
In addition to safety and performance, the new generation of Dongfeng heavy trucks also excels in fuel efficiency, low noise levels, excellent cold-start capabilities, and long durability. The engine can last up to 800,000 kilometers. Since 2005, the Chinese heavy truck market has faced its first negative growth in eight years, with sales dropping by over 33%. However, large-tonnage heavy trucks have shown resilience, with rising demand despite the overall decline. The release of the Tianlong series signals Dongfeng's strong entry into the high-end domestic market, potentially reshaping the competitive landscape in the heavy truck industry.
